The Zenith chronograph reference G179 is a quality timepiece manufactured during a transitional era for mechanical chronographs—shortly before the presentation of the automatic El Primeron chronograph in 1969—this reference represents Zenith’s dedication to traditional, hand-finished chronograph calibers. The G179 is part of the broader lineage of pre-El Primero Zenith chronographs and showcases the manual-wind Caliber 146D, one of the last movements developed in-house by Martel Watch Co., which Zenith had acquired in the 1950s.
This chronograph has an 18kt solid gold case measuring 35 mm in diameter, excluding the crown. The case is in very good, untouched condition, retaining its original finish and showing only light signs of use. The pressure-locked caseback is correctly signed and has the appropriate serial numbers. The domed plexiglass crystal is in perfect condition. The original silvered dial is in a very good condition, with a subtle and even time patina. The dial has two recessed registers—continuous seconds at 9 o’clock and a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3—along with a tachymeter scale on the outer dial. The printed minute track, applied baton hour markers, and original hands are in a very good untouched condition.
The watch is powered by the Zenith Caliber 146D, a hand-wound column-wheel chronograph movement operating at 18,000 vibrations per hour Known for its robustness and precision, the 146D was used across several high-quality Zenith chronographs before the brand introduced the El Primero. The watch is fitted with a black leather strap, in excellent condition. It has been fully serviced in- house and is delivered in working order, including precise timekeeping and reliable chronograph function. It is accompanied by our six-month guarantee and originality certificate. Worldwide shipping is available. Please contact us for further details.
