This vintage Movado Calendograf Ref. 4823 combines mid-century elegance with mechanical sophistication. The Calendograf line was introduced by Movado in the 1940s, part of the brand’s ambition to offer complete triple-calendar wristwatches—day, date, and month—within the format of refined dress watches. During this period, Movado operated as a fully independent manufacture, producing its own movements and collaborating with select case makers to maintain high quality standards.
This watch has a solid 18-karat red-gold case measuring 34 mm in diameter, excluding the original crown. The case is larger than typical for the era and is in excellent condition, with only light signs of use. The pressure-locked caseback closes securely and is stamped with the correct reference, serial numbers, and manufacturer’s hallmarks. A domed plexiglass completes the case and is in excellent condition. The two-tone silvered dial is original and well preserved. It has applied Arabic numerals, a central seconds hand, and an arrow-tipped pointer date hand circling the periphery.
The day and month are displayed in Spanish through apertures at 12 and 6 o’clock. The dial surface shows only a light and even patina, with crisp printing and no oxidation. Inside, the watch is powered by the Movado calibre 475, a manual-wind movement designed and manufactured in-house. This calibre represents an important development in Swiss calendar wristwatches, as it is one of the first to employ a modular construction where a separate calendar plate is mounted on a time-only base calibre. This approach allowed for efficient production and serviceability maintaining a slim case profile. The watch is fitted with vintage a lizard strap, It has been serviced in-house, it will be delivered in proper working order, and with our six-month guarantee and originality certificate.
