Introduced in the early 1940s, this Jaeger‐LeCoultre’s triple calendar with moon‐phase complication marked a significant milestone in series-produced wristwatches. This wristwatch has a 33 mm steel case (measured excluding the original crown), in very good condition with only light, careful wear. The original pressure-locked caseback fits securely and bears correct serial numbers. The plexiglass crystal remains intact and clear.
The silvered dial has been professionally restored while maintaining original style and layout. It large Arabic numerals at 3, 9, 12, arrow indexes and the apertures for day and month, a radial date track, and the moon-phase sub-dial at six. The dial is in an excellent condotion, it has no time patina and no oxodations; the moon disk shows slight fading consistent with age. Powered by the manual-wind Jaeger‐LeCoultre Calibre P494/1A, this movement is a manually wound caliber part of a generation of high-grade calendar calibers produced by the manufacture during the post-war period. It is a three bridges movement with subsidiary seconds, designed to accommodate triple calendar and moonphase complications in a compact form. Built on the base architecture of the earlier Cal. 464 and 463 families, the P494/1A operates at 18,000 vibrations per hour and has 17 jewels. It has meticulous finishing: Geneva stripes (Côtes de Genève), perlage on the baseplate and anglage. (the edges are beveled and hand polished). Today, it is highly respected among collectors and watchmakers for its durability, elegant layout, and the harmony between its aesthetic and mechanical quality. The watch is fitted with a vintage crocodile strap .
