Ref. 3568 IWC Schaffhausen entered the professional dive watch market in 1967 with the Aquatimer reference 812, built with the EPSA Super-Compressor case patented by Ervin Piquerez S.A., featuring twin screw-down crowns at 2 and 4 o’clock with a spring system seal—the lower crown rotating the internal dive bezel protected under the crystal, while the upper handled winding and setting. The 1980s marked a turning point with the Aquatimer Ocean 2000, designed in collaboration with Ferdinand A. Porsche and constructed entirely from titanium, achieving an unprecedented 2000-meter depth rating, pioneering the use of this material in watchmaking. Reference 3568, introduced in 2009, replaced the internal-bezel 3548 model with a bolder design featuring a 44mm stainless steel case, sapphire-coated conventional external bezel with six-layer underside SuperLuminova, water resistance to 2000 meters (200 bar), and ETA-based caliber 30110 (2892-A2 base). and utilized IWC’s proprietary quick-release bracelet system licensed from Cartier. In 2011, the collection received minor updates maintaining the Aquatimer’s position as IWC’s engineering- focused contribution to professional dive instrumentation.
