Ref. 4016 Cartier introduced the Panthère de Cartier watch collection in 1983, named after its flexible bracelet that mimics the graceful movement of the panther, the maison’s emblematic animal since 1914. The watch was designed by Aldo Cipullo, the Italian jewelry designer who also created the iconic Cartier Love bracelet and represented the brand’s concept of the jewelry watch, combining beauty and functionality in a piece designed to double as both timepiece and ornament. The Panthère’s design draws inspiration from the Santos collection, and its defining characteristic is the ultra-flexible five-piece link bracelet with curved and polished rows that distinguish the Panthère from the more industrial Santos, resulting in a softer, more refined execution.

Initially offered in white gold, yellow gold, and two-tone steel and gold configurations, with full stainless steel versions introduced in 1991 and in 2017 Cartier relaunches the new Panthère confirming the enduring appeal of this 1980s icon.
