Silvana – Original “DH – Dienshuhr Heere” German WWI Military Wehrmacht Army Watch

Silvana is believed to have been founded in 1868. What is certain is that the company was involved in the split from A. Reymond SA (ARSA). In 1923, Fabrique d’Horologerie Silvana SA, with headquarters in Tramelan, was registered in the Courtelary commercial register and, in the same year, was admitted to the Association des Fabricants d’Horlogerie (Association of Watch Manufacturers). In 1929, Silvana merged with H. Gasser & Co. of Bienne and, in 1931, relocated production and offices to this city. In 1935, the company returned to Tramelan.

The “DH” (Dienstuhr Heer) caseback marking identifies German Army property, Production spanned approximately 1940-1945 using Swiss movements conforming to Wehrmacht specifications including water resistance and shock protection.

Original DH stampings prove scarce as many owners obliterated military markings post-war.
