Revue-Sport – Original “DH – Dienshuhr Heere” German WWII Military Wehrmacht Army Watch

This Revue-Sport D.H. is a Swiss-made Dienstuhr (service watch) produced under contract for the German Wehrmacht between 1939 and 1944 by Thommens Uhrenfabrik AG of Waldenburg, Canton Basel-Landschaft. The company traces its origins to 1853, when the municipality of Waldenburg — a town in the Jura whose economy had been damaged by the construction of the Basel–Olten railway line, which bypassed the valley — established the Société d’Horlogerie à Waldenburg to combat local unemployment. In 1859, the company was privatised and acquired by Gédéon Thommen (1831–1890), a local merchant, together with the watchmaker Louis Tschopp of Biel. Tschopp withdrew in 1869, and Thommen became sole owner, renaming the firm Gédéon Thommen – Uhrenfabrikation. The trademark “Revue” was registered circa 1908–1910 and progressively replaced “GT” on wristwatch production.

In 1939, the German Reichsregierung contracted Thommen to produce military wristwatches under the brand Revue-Sport for the Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe, and Kriegsmarine. The D.H. designation — stamped on the screw-down caseback as “D [serial number] H” — identifies the watch as a Dienstuhr Heer, a service watch allocated to the German land forces. The Revue-Sport D.H. is powered by the in-house Revue Caliber 59 (also documented in some examples as Caliber 56), a manually wound lever movement of 12 lignes (26.5 mm), 15 jewels, 18,000 vibrations per hour, approximately 30 hours of power reserve, fitted with Incabloc shock protection. According to analysis based on 121 registered examples, Revue-Sport D.H. watches were delivered in at least five production batches, identifiable by six-digit serial number ranges. The D.H. marking convention uses letters larger (2 mm) than the serial number digits (1 mm).

The Revue-Sport D.H. gained sufficient recognition that Revue Thommen produced a limited-edition civilian reissue in the 1950s, and again referenced the model with the Revue Sport 50 in 1994.
