The 18-karat gold case with a pressure-locked caseback measures 33mm diameter, original crown excluded, it is in a very good condition with only light wear. The caseback is in a very good condition, correctly signed and numbered, with the presentation : “Impiegati OCST all’On. Giov. de Giorgi nel 20° di attività a favore della classe operaia – 1.12.1950” ((from) the OCST Employees to the Honorable Giovanni De Giorgi on his 20th year of activity in favor of the working class – 1.12.1950). The (OCST) Organizzazione Cristiano-Sociale Ticinese was founded here in Switzerland at a Congress held in Bellinzona on May 18, 1919, the year following the end of World War I and Switzerland’s only general strike. During the 1930s, under the leadership of Monsignor Luigi Del-Pietro (who became cantonal secretary on September 1, 1929), the OCST expanded significantly, establishing numerous services and regional offices. Del-Pietro surrounded himselfwith principal collaborators who would serve the organization long-term, including Giovanni De- Giorgi (1911-1995).
Beginning in the 1950s, Ticino experienced economic expansion through construction, tourism, services development, and major hydroelectric projects, transforming the canton from an emigration territory into an immigration destination, with the OCST contributing to constructing the emerging welfare state. Giovanni De Giorgi had completed two decades of service within the OCST organization by 1950 during the critical period when the Christian-social union became the canton’s most representative labor organization. Bonaglia was at the time one of Lugano’s historical Zenith dealerships. This timepiece is powered by a manufacture-grade manual-winding Zenith caliber 106 movement, professionally serviced, so it keeps good time. The copper-tone dial is original and untouched, it is in a very good condition with only a light, uniform patina, no oxidation, and small seconds at 6 o’clock. This watch is complete with its original guarantee dated 1.12.1950, stamped and signed by Bonaglia, as well as with its original box. The plexiglass is new and this watch is also fitted with a new wristband, ready for immediate wear. This watch is guaranteed original and will be delivered with our 6-month guarantee and originality certificate.
