Zenith – Octagon Vintage 1970`s Solid 18kt Gold Watch – Cal. 2562C

During the early 1970s, under the Movado-Zenith-Mondia (MZM) holding, Zenith produced a range of geometric-cased dress watches in solid gold — hexagonal, octagonal, tonneau, and cushion forms that sat at the top of the catalogue without always receiving a formal model name.

This particular case shape is known as the “Octagon”: a faceted 18K yellow gold case with brushed flat surfaces and polished bevelled edges, produced for the Cal. 2562 family. Most octagon watches that appear on the market house the automatic Cal. 2562PC; this watch, is the hand-wound Cal. 2562C — the less common variant of the family.

The Calibre 2562 family was produced at Le Locle between 1972 and 1975. Four variants existed: the 2562 and 2562C as manual-wind movements, and the 2562P and 2562PC as their automatic equivalents. The “C” suffix “calendrier” denotes the addition of a date function. All four operate at 28,800 vph — a high-beat specification that was far from standard in the early 1970s, when most Swiss calibres still ran at 18,000 or 19,800. Approximately 65,000 units of the full family were produced.

The 18K yellow gold Octagon case measures 34 x 38.6mm, without counting the original crown. It is in very good condition with normal traces of use, and the pressure-fitted caseback is correctly signed and numbered and sits firmly.

The silvered sunray dial is original, with applied gold baton markers, gold hands, the Zenith star logo at 12 o’clock, and a date aperture at 3. Clean, legible, and in an excellent condition with no patina and no oxidations.

The plexiglass is in an excellent condition and this watch is also fitted with a new leather strap.

The movement has been serviced by our in-house watchmaker and runs strong.
