This chrono is powered by Zenith Caliber 143-6, a manual-winding chronograph movement developed in the early 1940s, based on the Excelsior Park Caliber 4. Excelsior Park, established in 1866, was renowned for producing high-quality chronograph movements, also supplying brands like Gallet and Girard-Perregaux. The collaboration between Zenith and Excelsior Park led to the integration of the Caliber 4 into Zenith’s timepieces, rebranded as the Caliber 143-6. This movement has a column-wheel mechanism, a hallmark of superior chronograph design, ensuring precise and reliable operation of the chronograph functions. Its robust construction and dependable performance made it a preferred choice for military chronographs, like the Yugoslavian Air Force in the 1950s which adopted this same model but with a black dial Timepieces housing the Caliber 143-6 are now highly regarded by collectors for their exemplary craftsmanship.
