This Wagner RLM German Luftwaffe military watch, produced during World War II, was part of the timekeeping instruments issued to Luftwaffe personnel. These watches were manufactured by several German and Swiss watchmakers under contracts for the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM), the German Ministry of Aviation. Wagner was among the brands producing these watches, which were designed for accuracy and durability, essential for military operations. During World War II, the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM) established specific requirements for timepieces intended for Luftwaffe personnel such as large, easily readable dials with luminous numerals and hands for visibility in low-light conditions and robust and precise movements.
From 1940 onward, watch production in Germany was directed towards military needs, as civilian watchmaking was stopped. While some of these military-issued watches had cases marked with “RLM” on the back, many did not bear this marking. Regardless of such markings, these timepieces were all supplied to Luftwaffe and airborne personnel, serving as essential tools for navigation and mission timing. This model has a 35.5mm chrome-plated metal case, excluding the original crown, with a pressure-locked back. The case is in a very good condition and it shows only minimal traces of use. The plexiglass is in an excellent condition. At the heart of this timepiece is the Urofa Caliber 58, a manual-winding movement widely used in German military watches of the 1940s. Developed by the Uhren-Rohwerke-Fabrik Glashütte (Urofa), this movement was known for its robust construction and reliability in harsh conditions. The Caliber 58 has a sub-seconds dial at six o’clock, it works at 18,000 vibrations per hour, and was directly derived from Swiss caliber Revue 54. Urofa, part of Glashütte’s watchmaking industry, played a key role in supplying movements to the German armed forces during the war.
The original black dial is very well-preserved and it has the characteristic luminous Arabic numerals and hands, ensuring readability in low-light conditions. The back of the dial is stamped with its production date: 12.1.1943, confirming its wartime origin. This watch has undergone a full in-house service and is in good working order. It will be delivered with our six-month guarantee and our originality certificate. Completing the timepiece is a new Italian leather strap. This Wagner Luftwaffe watch represents an interesting and original piece of military horology, reflecting the technical and functional requirements of wartime aviation.
