This Universal Genève Polerouter Sub, reference 869109, is an iconic dive watch, it is in an excellent condition, just serviced and complete with its box and 1965 Bucherer guarantee

The Polerouter series, introduced in 1954 and designed by Gérald Genta, commemorated Scandinavian Airlines System’s polar flights. The Polerouter Sub variant catered to diving
enthusiasts, reflecting the era’s growing interest in underwater sports.

The Universal Genève Polerouter Sub underwent notable design evolutions between its first and second generations, particularly in case symmetry. This is a first-generation Polerouter Sub, introduced in the early 1960s, with a symmetrical case design characterized by a balance case shape

In contrast, the second-generation Polerouter Sub, released later in the 1960s, adopted an asymmetrical case design. This interation featured a bulkier, more utilitarian case with an
asymmetrical profile, designed to provide enhanced protection to the crown and improve durability for diving purposes.

This watch has a stainless steel case measuring 37.5mm in diameter, excluding the original crown, offering substantial wrist presence. The original plexiglass crystal is in an excellent condition. The bidirectionl turning aluminum bezel is also in an excellent condition and it shows only light traces of use.

The serial number and the reference are no longer legible

The original black dial is designed for optimal legibility, with bold hour markers and hands with luminescent material to enhance visibility in low-light conditions. The dial’s condition is well- preserved, with minimal patina and no significant discoloration or imperfections; the printing and markers remain clear and intact, reflecting careful maintenance over the years.

Powering the Polerouter Sub is the Universal Genève caliber 69, an automatic micro-rotor movement introduced in 1962. The caliber 69’s compact design contributed to the sleek profile of the watch as the automatic winding rotor is positioned within the movement and not above.

The watch is fitted with a new Italian leather strap.

This Polerouter Sub has been serviced in-house and is in good working order. It is delivered with a six-month guarantee and originality certificate as well as with its original box and
guarantee booklet.

Collectors and enthusiasts will appreciate this Universal Genève Polerouter Sub for its historical significanc and enduring design. Its connection to the pioneering era of dive watches and the legacy of Universal Genève’s watchmaking excellence make it a noteworthy addition to any collection.
