Tsilla – Original “DU – Dienshuhr Verwaltung” German WWII Service Watch

TSILLA D.U. were manufactured by Fabrication d’Horlogerie Les Fils de Luc Vuilleumier, succeeded by Jean-Claude Vuilleumier, based in Tramelan-Dessus, Canton Bern, Switzerland. The enterprise originated in the early twentieth century as a workshop and comptoir d’horlogerie founded by Aurèle and Arthur Vuilleumier, natives of La Sagne and Tramelan, relocating to Tramelan-Dessus following the First World War with products exhibited at the Bern Cantonal Exhibition in 1924 and Basel Sample Fair in 1931. The firm formally registered under the corporate name Les Fils de Luc Vuilleumier on 28 April 1937 as a société en nom collectif engaged in horological manufacturing and sales, with registered offices at Grand Rue 174, Tramelan-Dessus.

On 28 March 1937, the trademark “Tsilla” was deposited with the Swiss Federal Intellectual Property Bureau for pocket watches and wristwatches. TSILLA D.U. military watches produced under Wehrmacht contract during the Second World War bore the D.U. designation (Dienstuhr-Verwaltung). The Tsilla trademark was renewed in 1957 under registration number 164245. The manufacturing operation ceased by 1983.
