This Tourneau Datofix steel chronograph with triple calendar and moon-phases is powered by a Valjoux 88 caliber, which is the rarest and most complex member of the Valjoux 72 family.
Where the Cal. 72 is a three-register chronograph and the 72C added a triple calendar, the Cal. 88 added calendar and a moonphase, making it one of the most complete manually wound wristwatch calibres of its era.
Only 13,218 Cal. 88 movements were produced. The 72C is the movement found in vintage Rolex triple calendar chronographs.
This watch was retailed by Tourneau in New York. Founded in 1900, Tourneau was a respected retailer importing Swiss movements and cases and assembling and signing them in its own premises. The movement carries Tourneau’s TXY US import markings, and the day and month discs are in English, all confirming the American distribution.
The stainless steel case measures 36 mm, it is in excellent condition. The pressure-locked caseback is correctly numbered and locks in firmly. The chronograph pushers and calendar correctors on the carrure are original and show almost no traces of use.
The plexiglass is intact.
The silvered two-tones dial with three registers, day and month apertures at 12 o’clock, moonphase aperture at 6, outer date track in blue, and hour markers is in excellent condition, it shows only light traces of time.
The Cal. 88 has been serviced and is running strong, with all chronograph and calendar functions working correctly.
The watch is fitted with a new leather strap.
