This vintage Tiffany & Co. wristwatch, Ref. 44776, is based on a Movado Calendograf, reflecting the retailer’s longstanding tradition of offering finely crafted timepieces under its own name. The case and movement are signed by Movado, the watch was retailed exclusively by Tiffany & Co. Established in 1837, Tiffany & Co. has a history of working with leading Swiss manufactures to produce high-grade, co-branded watches for its clientele. The Movado Calendograph, introduced in 1938, marked a significant advancement in Movado’s watchmaking during the late 1930s. This model has a triple calendar complication, displaying the day, date, and month. The Calendograf remained in production until 1951. This Calendograf has a 14 karat gold case manufactured by the Wadsworth Watch Case Company, a prominent American case manufacturer known for producing high-quality gold watch cases in the early to mid 20th century. The case measures 32mm in diameter, excluding the crown, and is fitted with a plexiglass crystal in excellent condition. The case has a Movado signed and numbered pressure locked caseback, it is in a very good overall condition and it shows only light traces of use.

The original silvered two-tone Tiffany dial with Arabic numerals has apertures for the day and month beneath and an outer track indicating the date with a central hand pointer. The subsidiary seconds dial is at 6 o’clock. The dial is in an excellent condition, the printing is well-preserved, exhibiting only minimal signs of aging. Powering this watch is the Movado Caliber 470, a manual-winding in-house movement introduced around 1935. This movement has a sub-seconds function and serves as the base for the Calendograph’s triple calendar complication. For the Calendograph series, including the Reference 44776, Movado utilized a modular approach—adding a calendar complication as a separate module mounted on top of the base. Cal. 470. This modular construction allowed Movado to maintain the reliability of its in-house movement while offering complex calendar functionality without redesigning the base mechanism. The calendar module controls the day and month windows (located beneath the 12 o’clock position) and a central pointer date hand, which references a peripheral date scale.

The use of a module simplifies servicing and assembly and reflects a broader trend in mid-20th- century Swiss watchmaking, where brands sought to add functional sophistication while maintaining production efficiency. This module employed a semi-instantaneous calendar mechanism, advancing the day and month at midnight through a system of levers and cams. Movado’s approach combined precision and practicality, as the calendar is also manually adjustable via recessed pushers on the side of the case. The watch is accompanied by a new leather strap. This watch has been serviced in-house and is in good working order. It is delivered with a six- month guarantee and an originality certificate, affirming its authenticity and functional integrity. For collectors and enthusiasts seeking a timepiece that embodies the collaboration between Movado and Tiffany & Co., this watch offers historical significance and enduring style. Worldwide shipping is available, and inquiries are welcome for further information or to arrange a viewing.
