This diamond-set platinum tank wristwatch is part of the collaboration between Hamilton Watch Company and Tiffany during the 1940s, a period when Hamilton produced watches for Tiffany. This diamond-set tank wristwatch represents a specialized segment of American horology from the 1940s, when Hamilton Watch Company movements were frequently cased by independent jewellers for exclusive clientele. The dial bears the Tiffany signature in period-correct graphics, and the execution quality aligns with standards associated with Tiffany retail pieces. However, the absence of case serial numbers prevents definitive authentication of Tiffany provenance. Hamilton produced watches for Tiffany, primarily in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s though custom jeweller commissions using Hamilton movements were also common practice during this period. The case is made of a platinum-iridium alloy, 90 percent platinum and 10 percent iridium.

This 90/10 platinum-iridium alloy was traditionally one of the high-end watchmaking alloys used in the United States, for its excellent all-round manufacturing characteristics including the ability to be cast, welded, machined and stamped. This alloy has the stability of platinum but increased hardness, with platinum containing 10 percent iridium achieving significantly improved hardness over pure platinum. The case measures 20mm excluding the crown by 42mm including lugs and is in good condition with light traces consistent with its age. The caseback locks securely. The mineral glass is in perfect condition. The dark grey / near black dial with a vertical satin finish has hand-fabricated Art Deco white gold numerals individually set with old-cut natural diamonds with baguette-cut diamond set in the remaining hours. The subsidiary seconds dial is at 6 o’clock. The dial shows light traces of time consistent with its age but it is in an overall excellent condition The watch is powered by the tonneu-shaped Hamilton caliber 980, a manual-wind movement produced from 1934 to 1951, it has 17 jewels, a Breguet hairspring, and sub-seconds function. The movement has been fully serviced in-house and functions correctly. The timepiece is fitted with a new crocodile strap.
