This vintage Tavannes/Cyma chronograph from the 1940s is made with a striking all steel art- deco style flexible-lugs case, it is in a very good condition and in proper working order. Tavannes, founded in 1891 and closely associated with Cyma, was known for manufacturing precision chronograph, both civilian and military. This chronograph is powered by the Landeron 13 movement, one of the early wristwatch sized column wheel chronograph calibers, developed by Charles Hahn et Cie in the 1930s and produced through the early 1940s. The movement was widely adopted by several respected manufacturers and is valued for its robustness. The stainless steel case is Staybrite steel, a chromium alloy known for its corrosion resistance and use in high-grade Swiss cases of the era. It measures 35.5 mm in diameter, excluding the crown, and has flexible lugs—a very distinctive design allowing a better fit on the wrist. The snap-back case locks securely and is correctly signed.
The dial is a silvered two-tone sector-style, with an outer telemeter scale and an inner “snail” tachymeter scale and its original blued steel hands. The dial shows only an even patina consistent with age, with some oxidation in portions of the outer edge. The plexiglass is in excellent condition. This watch is fitted with a new vintage-style black leather strap and has been serviced in-house. The chronograph functions reset correctly, and the movement keeps good time.
