The reference 6265 is the last of the hand-wound Daytonas, the steel-bezel sibling of the 6263, and, with it, the closing chapter of the manual Cosmograph before the automatic era began in 1988. This is a 1979 watch, serial 6.224m, in an honest and original configuration.

The steel case measures 37mm and still has its sharp geometry, with crisp bevels and clean finish transitions, unpolished, showing normal, even wear rather than the ambiguous perfection of a refinish. Screw-down Oyster pushers (Mk.III) and a screw-down Triplock crown, the crown a later service part. The engraved steel tachymetre bezel is original, with the descending bar on the 7. The inner caseback is stamped 6263, correct for the reference, as Rolex used a common caseback across both 6263 and 6265.

The black dial is the first “Big Red” generation, with serif text and the bold red line DAYTONA above the six o’clock counter that gives the watch its name. Silvered sub-dials in the inverted-panda configuration. T SWISS T tritium, aged evenly, it shows a light patina, it is an original and untouched dial.

The movement is the calibre 727, Rolex’s version of the Valjoux 726, column-wheel, lateral-clutch, 21,600 vph, with Microstella balance and Breguet overcoil. The levers are satin-polished with anglaged edges. Serviced and running correctly. It has the correct markings and serial number

This chronograph is also fitted with its original 1971 Oyster bracelet, ref. 7835 with 571 end links, with an overall length of approx 20 cm.
