This 1950`s solid red gold chronograph Ref. 11-51 manufactured by Revue —a company with roots tracing back to 1853— reflects the brand’s tradition of combining functional and elegant design with quality mechanical movements. While better known for their pilot and military-issued timepieces, Revue also produced a number of elegant chronographs aimed at civilian clientele during the post-war period, often using high- grade Swiss ébauches.

This chronograph is housed in a 37.8 mm case, a generous size for the period, in 18kt red gold. The case is in excellent condition and shows only very light signs of wear. The pressure-fit caseback closes securely and bears the correct reference numbers and Revue branding. The plexiglass crystal is perfect. The original silvered two-tones dial with applied baton hour markers and outer scales for tachymeter and telemeter readings. The subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock indicate the 30-minute chronograph counter and continuous seconds, respectively. The dial is in an excellent condition, with sharp print, clean surfaces, and no discoloration or oxidation. The hands and central chronograph seconds hand provide excellent contrast and readability. The watch is powered by the Valjoux 23, one of the most respected manually wound column- wheel chronograph movement,. The Cal. 23, introduced in the 1930s, is appreciated for its robustness and fine construction, and was used by a wide range of Swiss manufacturers well into the 1970s. It has 17 jewels, a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour, and is equipped with Incabloc shock protection.
