The Rado Diastar 515, introduced in the 1970s, exemplifies Rado’s commitment to innovative materials and distinctive design. The Diastar line was launched in 1962, and Ref. 515 continued the tradition of utilizing hard metal tungsten cases to achieve exceptional scratch resistance, durability and unique aesthetic. This watch is in a truly excellent, near new-old-stock condition, and it has just been serviced.
This watch has a case composed of a tungsten top and a stainless steel back, measuring 35 mm in width (excluding the original crown) and 38.5 mm including the lugs. Tungsten is renowned for its hardness, ranking close to diamond on the Mohs scale, which provides the case with remarkable resistance to scratches and wear. The case is in excellent, near-new-old-stock condition, with only minimal signs of use. The caseback secures firmly and shows its original sticker, indicating a very slight use. The mineral glass crystal is in good condition, just a very small chip on the glass next to the week’s window.
The dial is made of genuine lapis lazuli, with a blue hue, with applied hour markers and a vertical day-date display at the 6 o’clock position. The dial is in an excellent condition, the dial does not have any fractures or chippings, and the printing and markers remain crisp and legible. Powering the watch is the Rado Caliber 2798, based on the ETA 2789-1 movement. This automatic movement operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and is recognized for its reliability and was widely used in Swiss watches during the 1970s.
The watch is fitted with its original stainless steel bracelet, complete with its Rado-signed folding clasp, accommodating wrists up to approximately 20 cm. The bracelet is in excellent condition, showing only very light traces of use. This timepiece has been serviced in-house and is in good working order. It is accompanied by a six-month guarantee and an originality certificate. Collectors seeking a Rado Diastar that embodies the brand’s innovative use of materials and distinctive design will find this Ref. 515 a compelling choice. Its authenticity and mechanical integrity make it a noteworthy addition to any collection. Worldwide shipping is available, and inquiries are welcome.
