The Gouverneur was Piaget’s classical dress line of the 1990s, a round 18kt gold watch with a stepped bezel and downturned lugs, produced from around 1993 across a full family of references.
What is worth knowing about it is the range it anchored: the same Gouverneur case housed everything from this classic automatic date model at the base to triple-calendar moonphases, perpetual calendars, and, at the summit, grande-and-petite-sonnerie minute repeaters.
This reference is the purest expression of the line with no complication, an essential and minimalist design, which is where Piaget, a house built on gold and on the thinnest movements in watchmaking, had always scored.
The 18kt gold case is solid and notably hefty for its size, in the Gouverneur idiom, round, with a fine stepped bezel and short downturned lugs. Immaculate throughout. The crown is original and the caseback is correctly signed and numbered.
The Ssapphire crystal is perfect too
The white dial with applied gold indexes, a date at three, and center seconds in in an excellent, original and utouched condition with no time patina and no oxidations
The movement is the automatic calibre 889, built on the Jaeger-LeCoultre 889 base, one of the most respected manufacture-grade automatic movements of its generation, a thin, well-finished calibre that suited Piaget’s preference for elegance over bulk. Serviced and running correctly.
