The reference 3537 belongs to the golden-era Calatrava, the run of time-only dress watches that, from the 1950s into the 1970s, refined the template the original ref. 96 had set in 1932 and made it the standard by which every dress watch is still measured. Round, slim, essential, 33mm: it is the Calatrava idea in its purest and most wearable form, and one of the references that carried Patek’s dress-watch reputation through the post-war decades.
The 18kt gold case measures 33mm, minimalist design with a smooth polished bezel, slim profile, straight lugs. Excellent condition. The crown is original and the pressure-locked caseback is correctly signed and numbered.
The plexi crystal is perfect.
The silvered soleil dial is in excellent condition, the fine radial brushing catching light across a clean, open field, with applied gold baton markers and matching baton hands. Original and untouched, no time patina and no oxidations.
The movement is where the 3537 earns its standing: the Patek Philippe calibre 23-300, one of the most respected hand-wound movements the manufacture produced, made between 1956 and 1975. Eighteen jewels, stamped with the Geneva Seal, and adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and five positions, a specification most makers reserved for chronometer-grade watches, applied here to a time-only dress calibre. Serviced and running correctly.
Thjis watch is fitted with an unbranded crocodile strap with its original Patek Philippe clasp.
