Leonidas was established in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, and by the 1940s had become one of the principal Swiss manufacturers of chronographs and calendar complications, holding a patent for calendar display functions registered in 1947. Reference 0151 is among the best known Leonidas complications from this period — a triple calendar with moonphase produced at the height of the genre’s popularity. The case is stainless steel and it measures 35.5 mm in diameter excluding the crown, in very good condition with only light traces of use. The caseback closes firmly and has the original serial numbers and manufacturer’s markings. The plexiglass is in perfect condition. The original silvered two-tones dial with triple calendar: day of the week and month in French displayed through apertures — and a date pointer hand running along the outer blue chapter ring. The moonphase aperture displays the classic smiling moon face with some fading to the
disc consistent with age. The silvered dial is in excellent condition with no patina and no oxidations. The movement is the ETA calibre 1100, a manually-wound movement where tjhe triple calendar and moonphase complications are driven by a module positioned above the base calibre. The ETA 1100 in this configuration was produced from 1949 into the 1960s and is regarded as a reliable and well-engineered platform for this class of complication. This watch is fitted with a new leather strap. The movement has been serviced in-house and is in good working order.
