The Grande Taille case was introduced in 1991, for the Reverso’s sixtieth anniversary, and it was enlarged for a reason: Jaeger-LeCoultre’s chairman Günter Blümlein wanted a Reverso that could have complications.
Unlike many othere Reverso with complications, what makes this one attractive is that even with a full calendar the case is pleasantly thin with a thickness of only 8.5 mm. Wrist presence without bulk.
Also the reverse panel is blank. On a Reverso that matters more than on any other watch: the case was built in 1931 to be swivelled and the back is the surface owners have had engraved ever since, so an untouched one is a nice addition
Ref. 270.8.36 is the complicated Grande Taille, powered by Jaeger-LeCoultre’s in-house hand-wound calibre 836, developed for use in the Reverso family, driving a pointer date read by a red hand against the peripheral calendar ring and a day-of-the-week aperture at 11 o’clock, with an English day disc and small seconds at six. The base Grande Taille runs the simpler calibre 822.
