The Girard-Perregaux Chronograph Vintage 96 Ref. 4930 belongs to the third release in the brand’s “Vintage” series, a limited edition and limited production initiative launched in 1994. This series was conceived to reinterpret significant historical models from Girard-Perregaux’s archives, adapting them with modern watchmaking techniques while preserving key design codes. The most enduring example of this project is the “Vintage 1945,” first introduced in 1995 and still a part of the collection today. As the name indicates, the “Vintage 1996” was introduced in 1996 and took inspiration from a 1960s-era Girard-Perregaux chronograph with a three counters dial layout and round chrono pushers. According to period marketing materials, the design was specifically modeled after historic GP references powered by Excelsior Park calibers—particularly the EP40, which Girard-Perregaux modified into their in-house Caliber 07. This movement was used in 1960s chronographs such as the 8846 Olimpico series, including the 1968, chronographs that have become classics among vintage timepieces.
The Ref. 4930 pays tribute to this lineage with a 35.5mm round case in 18kt pink gold, with round pump chronograph pushers and a sapphire display caseback secured by seven screws. The case is in an excellent condition and it shows almost no traces of use. The sapphire crystal is in excellent condition, with no sctracthes or chippings The original two-tone black dial with applied Arabic numerals, feuille hands, a peripheral tachymeter scale, and a date window between 4 and 5 o’clock echoes those of the original 1960s design. The dial is in an excellent condition, it has not time patina and no oxidations At its core, the watch is powered by the automatic Girard-Perregaux Caliber GP3300—a thin, high-grade in-house movement known for its refined construction and first introduced in the 1990s. Designed with a focus on slim architecture and modular versatility, the GP3300 measures just 25.6 mm in diameter and 3.28 mm in height, making it suited for elegant timepieces requiring both mechanical refinement and compact dimensions. It has a bidirectional solid gold winding rotor, 27 jewels, a 28,800 vph frequency (4 Hz), and a power reserve of approximately 46 hours.
This movement’s construction allows it to serve as a base caliber for additional complications such as small seconds, moonphase, power reserve indicators, or chronograph modules, making it a cornerstone of GP’s mechanical portfolio. This chronograph is fitted with its original black crocodile strap and matching pink gold buckle. Recently serviced by Girard-Perregaux, it is accompanied by a 24-month factory warranty valid until May 2027, as well as its service box and our originality certificate.
