Favre-Leuba is the second-oldest watch brand in the world. Its recorded history begins on 13 March 1737, when Abraham Favre was first officially registered as an independent watchmaker in Le Locle — placing the maison two years behind Blancpain and ahead of every other name in Swiss watchmaking.

The Favre-Leuba name itself dates to the union of the Favre family with Auguste Leuba in the early nineteenth century. By the twentieth century the brand had built a reputation for technical firsts, including the 1962 Bivouac, the world’s first mechanical wristwatch with an aneroid barometer for altitude measurement. Alongside these instruments, Favre-Leuba maintained a line of finely made fancy case gold watches, like this one.

This watch has an unusual 18K yellow gold fancy case “corde torse”, measuring 22 x 29.5mm, with sculpted rope-twist along the flanks — a style that distinguishes it from the plain tank cases of the period. The case is in very good condition with light traces of use.

The white lacquered dial has black Roman numerals, a “chemin de fer “ double rail closed minute track, — clean and in excellent condition, no time patina and no oxidations.

The sapphire crystal is in perfect condition and this wathc is fitted with a new crocodile strap.

The movement has been serviced by our in-house watchmaker and runs correctly.
