This Eberhard pre-Extra-Fort chronograph in 18kt gold belongs to the first generation of Eberhard chronographs, the watches that preceded and gave rise to the Extra-Fort.
The key feature is the slide pusher at 4 o’clock: it looks like a conventional chrono pusher but in fact it is a sliding leverage which stops the chronograph in its tracks without resetting, allowing for intermediate times to be recorded.
The pusher at 2 o’clock operates the chronograph as a monopoussoir, start, stop and reset. This mechanism, patented by Eberhard in 1935, was one of the earliest solutions to the problem of recording split times on a wristwatch without going onto split chrono hands.
The 18kt yellow gold case measures 39 mm, it is solid and well built, with a hinged caseback derived from pocket watch architecture. The case is in excellent condition and the caseback is correctly signed and numbered. The crown is original.
The two-tone silvered dial has been professionally restored, it has the raised embossed “metal” Eberhard logo, an outer tachymeter scale, it has no patina and no oxidations. The hands are original.
The plexiglass is perfect.
The movement is the Eberhard Calibre 16000, based on the Valjoux 65, a 16-ligne column-wheel chronograph significantly modified to Eberhard specs, so that this can be considered a caliber exclusive to this brand. It has been serviced and is running strong, with all chronograph functions working correctly.
The watch is fitted with a new – original vintage – croco strap.
This watch has been serviced in-house and is in good working order. It is delivered with our six-month guarantee and our originality certificate. Worldwide shipping is available and inquiries are welcome.
