The Pre Extra-Fort sits at the origin of one of Swiss watchmaking’s most coherent chronograph lineages. Eberhard introduced the Cal. 16000 in 1935, and none of the dials withs movement show the ExtraFort designation that only appeared in catalogues from 1942 onward. What you are looking at predates the branding. It is the thing itself.

The steel case measures 39.3mm — large by 1940s standards — with a profile that reads as modern without concession to current taste. Lugs are unpolished, the bezel retains its original stepped profile, and the pressure-locked caseback is signed and numbered. No case restoration has been done

The black glossy silver-gilt dial has been professionally restored and is in excellent condition. Two registers — small seconds at 9, 30-and chrono minute counter at 3 — frame a central chronograph hand with an outer tachymeter scale running the full chapter ring.

The Cal. 16000 is a column-wheel chronograph built on a modified Valjoux 65 base, developed specifically for Eberhard. The operating logic is unconventional: the upper pusher handles start and reset functions, while the lower element is not a pusher at all — it is a slide, used to stop and re-engage the chronograph without resetting. This pause function, introduced nearly ninety years ago, remains a technically elegant solution to start and stop the chronograph without resetting. The movement has been fully serviced and runs correctly.
