Eberhard & Co. — Single-Pusher Chronograph, 18kt Yellow Gold, Double-Hinged Case, c. 1920s

Eberhard & Co. introduced the wristwatch chronograph in 1919, making the La Chaux-de-Fonds manufacture one of the earliest producers. This chronograph belongs to the first generation — a single-pusher gold chronograph in the large double-hinged case that distinguishes the earliest Eberhard wrist chronographs.

The case is solid 18kt yellow gold, measuring 39.5mm excluding the crown — a large format for 1920s production. The double-hinged construction — hinged bezel and hinged caseback — is directly derived from the half-hunter pocket watch tradition, adapting a familiar opening mechanism to the new wrist-worn format. The case is in very good condition with no evidence of polishing or case work. The caseback hinge is non-functional — the hinge mechanism is broken, and the caseback, which is original, fully signed, and numbered, removes in the conventional manner. Case robustness and structural integrity are not affected as the caseback attacheds securely. The bezel hinge is operational.

The white enamel dial with Breguet Arabic numerals and two subsidiary registers — running seconds and 30-minute counter — has the charactristic inner “tachymètre” snail-scale. The dial condition is excellent with no hairlines and no restoration. A small chip is present on the outer edge, not visible as it falls behind the bezel.

The movement is a 15½-ligne column-wheel caliber, early Eberhard production, running on a single pusher — controlling start, stop, and reset . The movement has been professionally serviced, the Chronograph functions operate correctly. Timekeeping is accurate.
