This 1936 Cartier Paris Baguette Mouvement Duoplan lady`s watch exemplifies the collaboration between Cartier and Jaeger-LeCoultre, combining Louis Cartier`s refined design with the technical innovation of the Duoplan caliber. 

The Tank Baguette was introduced in the late 1920`s and it was – relatively to the small numbers of watches manufactured by this brand at the time, quite a successful product as it has style, design as well as an elegant size, which was a hallmark of high-end watchmaking

The case is 18-karat gold and it measures 12.30 mm by 30 mm, with a hinged construction that allows access to the movement. The case is in a very good condition, it shows some normale traces of time and does not seem to have been polished, the sapphire crystal is in a flawless condition. The backwinder case is complete with its correct serial number and “eagle head” French gold proofmarking

The serial number, in the 6500 range, dates this watch to 1936. To get a clear idea as to the scarcity of these older Cartier`s watches, this number reflects Cartier’s cumulative watch production beginning in 1919. By dividing this figure by the 18 years elapsed since 1919, it can be estimated that Cartier’s Paris production at the time was approximately only 360 timepieces annually.

The watch is powered by a Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 403, adjusted to two positions, a manual-winding movement renowned for its compact size and reliability. The Caliber 403 is part of the Duoplan series, introduced in 1927, which utilized a revolutionary two-level design to achieve a remarkable miniaturization without compromising performance. 

The original laquered white dial is in a very good condition with only minimal signs of aging. The black Roman numerals and blued steel hands provide a classic aesthetic, characteristic of Cartier’s timeless design language.

Accompanying the watch is a handmade crocodile strap, complemented by its original pink gold folding clasp. The strap currently on the watch is quite short and would fit only a woman with a smaller wrist, so this watch will also be delivered with an additional origunal Cartier strap with an ardillon buckle.
