Bulla – Original “D – Dienshuhr” German WWI Military Luftwaffe Pilot Watch

The company was founded by Émile Jullard in 1872 in Tramelan (Jura). In later years, its workshops were relocated to Porrentruy (Jura).

In its early phase, the firm operated primarily as a third-party assembler, producing watches on behalf of other brands. From 1890 onward, it began marketing its own timepieces under the “BULLA” trademark. The company continued operating without interruption until 1973, the year in which it ceased operations permanently, bringing more than a century of watchmaking activity to a close. Bulla produced “DH” marked timepieces for the Wehrmacht (German Army) during WWII. The “DH” designation (Dienstuhr Heer – Service Watch Army) appears on screw-back cases flanking sequential serial numbers allocated by German authorities rather than manufacturers. Original DH stampings prove increasingly rare as many servicemen removed military markings post-war.
