Buren Watch Company was established in 1898 following London-based H. Williamson Ltd.’s acquisition of Fritz Suter & Cie in Büren an der Aare, Canton Bern, Switzerland. Initially producing pocket watches and table clocks, the enterprise formally adopted the Buren Watch Co. designation in 1916, separating from its English parent company in 1932 to become Uhrenfabrik Buren AG under Swiss management.
During the Second World War, Buren supplied D.H. service watches to Wehrmacht forces. Production utilized Buren’s proprietary Caliber 410 and Caliber 462 “Grand Prix” movements, 15-jewel lever escapements with shock-resistant balance systems. Following post-war expansion focusing on micro-rotor automatic calibers, Hamilton Watch Company acquired Buren in 1966, subsequently joining SSIH Group in 1971 before liquidation in 1972.
