The Omega Speedmaster reference 2915-2, produced between 1958 and 1959, represents a pivotal chapter in the chronicle of Omaga`s chronographs.
As the second iteration of the inaugural Speedmaster series, it introduced design elements and technical features that have become emblematic of the collection.
Introduced in 1957, the Omega Speedmaster Ref. 2915-1 was conceived as a high-precision chronograph tailored for motorsport enthusiasts and professionals.
The reference 2915-2 continued this legacy, maintaining the robust functionality and aesthetic appeal that defined its predecessor.
Its enduring design and performance laid the groundwork for the Speedmaster’s evolution into the iconic “Moonwatch,” famously associated with NASA’s lunar missions.
This Omega Speedmaster 2915-2 is a true time capsule. Completely original and untouched, it has retained every factory-correct component—from its broad arrow hands and A2 bezel to the 7077/6 bracelet with no.6 end links.
Finding a 66-year-old watch in this level of preservation is exceptionally rare, making it an extraordinary reference point for collectors and historians alike.
Infact this very Speedmaster served as the reference piece scanned by Omega when developing the modern reissue of the Moonwatch Caliber 321.
Chosen for its exceptional originality and untouched condition, it is a benchmark for historical accuracy.
This 2915-2 has retained its original finish, with sharp edges and well-preserved contours. The case back is correctly engraved with the “Speedmaster” designation, which is still sharp.
The A2 bezel is characterized by:
– An accent on the “E”
– Flat “A”
– Rounded and open “C”
– “M” with a high central point
– Rounded zeros in “1000”
– Rounded “3”
– Flat-headed “4”
– “7” with a vertical serif
This bezel was utilized between 1957 and 1959, aligning perfectly with the production period of this 2915-2. The black dial is in impeccable condition, with the original luminescent radium material that has aged to a subtle hazelnut brown tone.
This is a “High Omega dial, as the Omega word is close to the applied Omega Steel Logo, the Omega writing has the correct oval “O” in its inscription, a hallmark of this reference. This Speedy has one of the rare stepped dials occasionally found on reference 2915-2. While most 2915-2 Speedmasters are fitted with flat dials, a small number—like this one—were produced with a step, a transitional feature that foreshadows the design of later references.
Its presence adds another layer of rarity and historical intrigue to an already exceptional watch.
The watch has its original “Broad Arrow” hands, the hour, minutes and chronograph hands are polished steel, while the three sub-counters hands are painted white.
At its core, the watch houses the Omega Caliber 321 A1, a movement celebrated for its precision and durability.
The movement’s serial number falls within the 15.99 million range, consistent with the production timeline of this model.
This watch has the correct “Rose” finish.
The timepiece is equipped with the correct narrow Omega crown and 4mm smaller chronograph pushers, components that are often replaced in lesser-preserved examples.
